Kick off meeting of The Technical Wood Working Group with 03 BSOs HAWA, BIFA, FPA and Laita Design – R&D center of HCMC University of Technology and Education to set up a taskforce and following steps for the working group.

On 12 March 2020, 17 participants from Ho Chi Minh, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ha Noi, Thai Nguyen, Nghe An provinces participated in the event in Laita and 8 participants accessed online. Besides the BSOs staff and leading innovative companies like AA, Tekcom, there were participants from universities. About 20 people registered for regular bulletins in 2020.

In order to update information on novel material regarding technical wood, SIPPO in cooperation with wood related organizations have set up a working group named “The Technical Wood Working Group” (TWWG) to be a playground for associations, companies, researchers, experts, to regularly update and share experiences, sector knowledge, information about new materials and their application in wood processing.  

At the event, Mr. Laurent Corpataux – SIPPO technical wood expert – presented on the market opportunities and current global trends of technical wood applied in furniture manufacturing, lightweight panels for vehicles and construction such as Engineered LVL/Plywood, Blockboards, Cross Laminated Timber (CLT), Glued Laminated Timber (Glulam)

Participants were impressed by various beautiful construction projects such as the Bhutan Kingdom Palace, Olympic swimming pool in Beijing, stations in Bern, and projects in Singapore done by his team shown on the screen.

Mr. Hoa from Laita also shared their research of his center about wood material and discuss the opportunities and challenges of TW in Vietnam. Other representative from institutes, universities and companies raised questions and contributed their practical experiences regarding this topic and voluntarily join to be the core members of the working group.

Hosted by the HCMC University of Technical and Education and the leaders of HAWA, BIFA, FPA and involved companies, the gathering was considered a large success by participants.
